On Wednesday, five persons of a gang were arrested by the Delhi crime branch for their alleged involvement in more than 50 cases of robbery, snatching and vehicle theft. The gang was famous by the name of Bunty gang and the accused were identified as Manoj Kumar Kejriwal (35), Parveen Shankar (27), Rahul Anand (26), Hari Om (23) and Mahesh Kumar (35). Patna: 18 born blind in arsenic affected blocks of Bhojpur: Overall 18 children in arsenic affected areas of Bhojpur district were born blind in the last 3 months as stated by Nand Kishore Yadav, Bihar Health Minister.

The actual cause leading to blindness among these children is yet to be discovered but the health department officials are in constant touch with ophthalmologists.
The arsenic affected areas in Bihar include Bhojpur, Vaishali, Buxar, Samastipur, Bhagalpur, Katihar, Munger, Saran, Darbhanga, Khagaria, and Patna. Read the rest of this entry »
The Bihar government will hike the insurance cover of policemen and homeguard personnel posted in 15 Maoist-affected districts of the state from the present Rs 12 lakh to Rs 13.75 lakh.
Director General of Police Neelmani told reporters here On Monday that while the insurance cover has been raised, the ex gratia would remain Rs 10 lakh.
”All police officers, policemen and home guard jawans posted in 15 naxalite affected districts will now be entitled for a insurance cover of Rs 13.75 lakh,” he said. The districts are Patna, Nalanda, Gaya, Nawada, Jehanabad, Arwal, Aurangabad, Rohtas, Kaimur, Bhagalpur, Sitamarhi, East and West Champaran, Munger and Jamui, he added.

If this year’s figures given in the Economic Survey of Bihar is to be believed Patna gets almost half––44 per cent to be precise––of the state’s funds meant for various development work. The rest 37 districts of the state had to content with 56 per cent. Incidentally Patna has less than six per cent of the state’s population.
